With lockdown restrictions eased and life slowly returning to a new normal, BXTA is excited to return to attending urology events and meetings, teaching and making more people aware of the transformations being undertaken within the prostate cancer pathway. Across September, we have a variety of upcoming courses and classes. Please do find below details of the latest upcoming events where you’ll be able to find and engage with us:

7th September: PCFA / BXTA Brachytherapy Webinar

• We recently attended a webinar where Dr Joseph Bucci – Radiation Oncologist, and Dr David Malouf – Urologist, discussed where brachytherapy fits in the prostate cancer journey. ​​Brachytherapy has advanced significantly in recent years, with the advent of 4D brachytherapy technology and new evidence on the effectiveness of low dose rate treatments. Precision systems have also helped to minimise side effects and improve patient outcomes, and we want more people to feel confident in this treatment choice. 10th September: King George LATP Prostate Biopsy PrecisionPoint Training Day

• As part of the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, BXTA is hosting a LATP Prostate Biopsy PrecisionPoint Training Day at King George Hospital. This day will consist of discussions from a variety of experts in prostate cancer, including Mr Rick Popert – Consultant Urological Surgeon at Guys Hospital, Mr S Kulkarni – Clinical Lead Consultant Urologist BHRUT, and Mr L Mambu, Consultant Urological Surgeon. From the acceleration of Trexit, to the challenges faced in moving from GA to LA TP, and more recently, tackling LATP in the Covid-19-era, the training day will cover all aspects and questions in regards to the new innovations in the prostate biopsy, including live cases.
  
  

24th September: PrecisionPoint Transperineal training course – Guy’s and St Thomas’

• Our PrecisionPoint Transperineal access system courses at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital have re-started in a face-to-face format, run by Rick Popert, Consultant Urologist, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, in a move to support our Trexit initiative. Nurses play a key role in the transition away from TRUS biopsies to LA TP, and this national training programme aims to increase the number of nurses skilled in performing LA TP biopsies. After a year of webinar-based training, we’re excited to return to a physical format, where we can support nurses at the forefront of clinical practice, providing significant value within the timed prostate cancer pathway, particularly as demand and pressures are still high on NHS services and resources.
  
  

25th September: UCL MRI Masterclass for the Diagnosis and Management of Prostate Cancer

• At UCL’s upcoming MRI masterclass, we aim to teach participants everything they need to know about prostate MRI for the diagnosis and management of patients with prostate cancer, particularly as the prostate cancer management pathway is moving towards image-guided diagnosis and treatment. BXTA also has a 15-minute slot where John Alden will be discussing and demonstrating the PrecisionPoint Transperineal Access system, for targeted and systematic cognitive transperineal biopsies through this virtual event at 10.45am. The last year has been challenging for all, particularly for healthcare professionals, dealing with increased pressures and stretched resources. This has only emphasised the importance for staff to continue to upskill and train themselves to the best of their ability, whether this was virtually, or now returning to face-to-face meetings.
