Over the coming week BXTAccelyon will be holding workshops in New Zealand where Urologists from across the country will receive practical training on the use of the PrecisionPoint™ transperineal Access System.

Aimed at Urologists involved in the treatment and diagnosis of prostate cancer, the practical sessions will teach the principles of free hand, transperineal targeted and systematic prostate biopsies performed under local anaesthetic. Delegates will be introduced to the PrecisionPoint™ Transperineal Access System and shown how it can be used to enhance the efficiency of prostate diagnosis by eliminating the need for general anaesthetic and theatre time, allowing biopsies to be performed in the outpatient setting. The PrecisionPoint™ Transperineal Access System revolutionises the methodology for obtaining prostate biopsies, enabling Urologists to easily transition to this new transperineal approach, decreasing infections over the transrectal approach and facilitating higher cancer detection rates.

Set to revolutionise prostate biopsies PrecisionPoint™ was developed in response to the increased adoption of active surveillance and the disadvantages in transrectal biopsy approaches. The device – the first to be approved by the FDA (currently under clinical review at the Greenlane Clinic, Auckland) – allows a free-handed transperineal biopsy of the prostate. The low-cost, disposable device represents a safer and more accurate method for urologists to detect potential incidents of prostate cancer at an earlier stage of progression, through its ability to systematically allow access to the whole prostate gland.

The workshops, involving a combination of live case demonstrations, lectures and hands-on training, will be led by Mr. Rick Popert (Consultant Urological Surgeon, London Bridge Hospital), the European expert in performing this revolutionary procedure. The aim of the course is to demonstrate how a more time and resource efficient service can be delivered to patients, whilst maintaining the diagnostic quality and benefits of transperineal biopsy.

The first New Zealand patients will be biopsied with the device at Greenlane Clinic, Auckland, with subsequent information sessions in Wellington and Christchurch throughout the week.
