Dosis-escalatie kan op verschillende manieren worden toegediend: alleen door middel van uitwendige bestraling (EBRT); door middel van brachytherapie; en door middel van een combinatie van beide therapie\u00ebn. Verschillende studies bij pati\u00ebnten met prostaatkanker met een gemiddeld of hoog risico laten een betere bPFS zien voor zowel brachytherapie met hoge dosesnelheid in combinatie met EBRT (HDR-EBRT), als brachytherapie met permanente zaadjes en een lage dosesnelheid in combinatie met EBRT (LDR-EBRT), in vergelijking met alleen EBRT. Er was echter geen bewijs waarin LDR-EBRT rechtstreeks wordt vergeleken met HDR-EBRT.<\/div>\n<div>De Leeds-studie vergeleek de resultaten van 116 mannen die werden behandeld met LDR-EBRT en 171 mannen die werden behandeld met HDR-EBRT tussen respectievelijk 1996 - 2007 en 2007 - 2012. Uit het onderzoek bleek dat bij pati\u00ebnten die met HDR-EBRT werden behandeld, de kans op biochemische progressie - verhoogd PSA - meer dan tweemaal zo groot was als bij pati\u00ebnten die met LDR-EBRT werden behandeld.
