De door de Canary Foundation gefinancierde studie onderzocht de mogelijkheden van prostaat-MRI voor het detecteren van kanker met een Gleason-score (GG) \u2265 2 in een gestandaardiseerd, multi-institutioneel actieve surveillance cohort en kwam tot de conclusie dat systematische biopsie is aanbevolen bij pati\u00ebnten met een negatieve MRI en noodzakelijk bij pati\u00ebnten met een positieve MRI.<\/div>\n<div>De mannen die deelnamen aan de Prostate Active Surveillance Study (PASS) van de Canary Foundation met GG &lt; 2 en die binnen 12 maanden na een multiparametrische MRI een biopsie ondergingen werden ge\u00ebvalueerd. Het primaire resultaat van de studie was de herclassificatie van de biopsie naar GG2 of hoger.<\/div>\n<div>Er waren 361 deelnemers met 395 prostaat-MRI's met een mediane follow-up van 4,1 (IQR: 2,0-7,6) jaar. In totaal toonden 108\/395 (27%) biopsies een herclassificatie. Wanneer positieve MRI wordt gedefinieerd als PI-RADS 3-5, was de NPV en PPV voor het opsporen van GG \u22652 kanker respectievelijk 83% (95% CI: 76-90%) en 31% (95% CI: 26-37%). PI-RADS werd significant geassocieerd met herclassificatie (PI-RADS 5 versus 1 en 2: OR = 2,71; 95% CI: 1,21-6,17, p = 0,016) in een multivariabel model, maar was niet beter dan een model met alleen klinische factoren (AUC 0,768 versus 0,762). Bij 194 fusiebiopsies werd in 21 (11%) gevallen kanker van hogere graad aangetroffen in de doelkernen, terwijl in 25 (13%) gevallen kanker van hogere graad werd aangetroffen in de systematische kernen.<\/div>\n<div>Hieruit blijkt dat zowel MRI als systematische biopsie een belangrijke rol spelen in het prostaatkanker-traject bij het nauwkeurig opsporen van de potenti\u00eble incidentie van kanker.<\/div>\n<div>De studie vermeldt ook dat systematische biopsie op een veilige, comfortabele en doeltreffende manier moet worden uitgevoerd.<\/div>\n<div>BXTAccelyon is blij pati\u00ebnten en artsen in het volledige prostaatkankertraject te kunnen ondersteunen met de recente toevoeging van het online MRI trainingsplatform MRI Pro aan onze dienstverlening.
